Statement in Solidarity with the Tragedy in Türkiye and Syria

The Executive Committee of EAPP would like to express to all our EAPP members, – and in particular our members based in Türkiye and Syria and those having close ties with these two countries –, our feelings of deep concern, sadness, and solidarity for the tragedy brought by the devastating earthquakes that took place recently. Our deepest condolences for the loss of life, the suffering, and the damage caused by the earthquakes. This heartbreaking and unfathomable tragedy will come at an enormous expense, both psychologically and materially, to the people in the affected regions today and to future generations.

We kindly ask all members of the association to check with their students and colleagues to ensure that those who might have been affected (either directly or indirectly) by this tragedy receive the needed support. Natural disasters of this magnitude have long-lasting emotional, social, and economic consequences that transcend geographic borders and time zones. Feelings of despair, loneliness, and helplessness can be felt by many, and for a time period that goes far beyond traditional news coverage of the event.

We would also like to encourage our members to provide emergency relief to those affected by these devastating earthquakes (please see links below). Any financial help, no matter how small, can make a difference to affected families in Türkiye and Syria.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need institutional support or would benefit from any resources EAPP might be able to provide.

EAPP Executive Committee.
