Purpose of the Grants

The call is now open for the 2026 European Association of Personality Psychology (EAPP) Collaborative Research Grants. The aim of the grants is to support novel and high-level collaborative personality research projects involving early career researchers (ECRs). In 2026, up to four grants of €15,000 each (Funding Scheme A) and up to four grants of €5,000 each (Funding Scheme B) will be awarded for any combination of eligible activities conducted over two years. Funds must be transferred to the Recipient Institution no later than 15 January 2027.

The grant is mainly intended to support projects by Early Career Researchers (ECR). For the purposes of this call, an ECR is either a PhD student or a non-tenured researcher within 5 years of the award of their PhD degree, i.e., whose PhD has not been awarded earlier than 10 November 2021; the five-year eligibility window may be extended in case of any documented career breaks for reasons like family care, health, or others.

Applicants and awardees are encouraged, but not required, to consider the European Journal of Personality (EJP) or Personality Science (PS) as possible outlets for manuscripts arising from the funded project. Any submission will be subject to the journals’ usual independent editorial and peer-review procedures.

Grant Terms and Conditions

  • Funds are available to support direct research costs and dissemination of results.
  • Applications should demonstrate that funds are sought for a clearly defined, discrete piece of research with an identifiable outcome on completion.
  • Applications to organize a conference or workshop as well as grants intended solely to support conference or workshop attendance will NOT be considered.
  • Successful Recipient Institutions will have to sign an agreement with the EAPP containing the terms on which the funds are being provided.
  • Successful Main Applicants will be required to provide a final report at the end of the project (see Appendix B for a draft of such agreement).

Funding Requirements

Eligibility for Funding

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • The Main Applicant must be EAPP a member in good standing at the time of submission (see

    Membership


    ).

  • The Main Applicant must be an ECR at the time of application deadline.
  • Grants are available for collaborative research in the field of personality science (broadly defined).
  • Minimum two and maximum four applicants can apply for a single grant.
    • For funding scheme A: Co-Applicant No. 2 does not need to be an ECR, but they must be based in a different country or, where appropriately justified, in a geographically, linguistically, or culturally distinct research context within the same country. Co-Applicant No. 2 cannot be the current or past MSc or PhD supervisor of the Main Applicant.
    • For funding scheme B: The Main Applicant and the Co-Applicants must be ECRs.
  • Past awardees of the EAPP collaborative research grants are not eligible to apply as Main Applicants or Co-Applicant No. 2.
  • Each individual may be included in only one application under this call, whether as the Main Applicant or a Co-Applicant and irrespective of the funding scheme.
  • Grant money will be transferred to one research institution (e.g., universities or similar research institutions), as specified in the budget. Written approval from the Recipient Institution is required at the time of application.

Eligible Costs

Funds may be sought to cover direct expenses (supported by appropriate financial documentation, such as invoices, receipts or other records) incurred in planning and conducting research, and disseminating research findings, including:

  • direct research costs (e.g., funds for participant payment; specialist software when free or open source alternatives are unavailable; translation costs; etc.)
  • research assistance
  • consumables
  • communication and dissemination costs
  • travel costs to collect data
  • other collaborative activities of project partners.

Applicants must confirm in writing that these costs are not covered by any other funding institutions. Institutional overheads and indirect costs are not eligible costs.
